Susan Sarandon Bio
It was the 1968 Democratic Convention, and there was a casting call for a film with a variety of parts for young people who disrupted the event. Joe (1970) was selected for auditions in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon was not selected, even though he had prior studies in acting. His wife Susan was offered a significant role.That character was Susan Compton as the daughter of ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill, Susan's drug dealer lover, is killed in the film. Joe (Peter Boyle) is a bigot working on an assembly line, is next introduced to Joe (Sarandon). Janet is a character who falls in love with Dr. Frank n Furter, plays the role of Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). After over 15 years, Sarandon finally actively campaigned for Annie in Bull Durham (1988), flying herself between Rome to Los Angeles at her expense. She stated "It was an incredible script... it dispelled a lot of myths and challenged America's definition of success". "I attended the film studio along with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his hot assistants before getting back on the plane. Tim Robbins, her Bull Durham (1988) actor, a supporting actor was her first love. He was father to two boys by 1992. This put Sarandon in an awkward position. She was forced to leave her home and take on the roles that were extremely challenging. It was the result four Academy Award nominations in 1990s and for best actress in Dead Man Walking (1995). Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
